Volunteering takes a lot of time, donating takes money. But guess what? There are things you can do for next to nothing!

Foremost, if you're looking for something local, try to do your research! Many of the more prominent organizations aren't actually that good. or -your- local shelter.
Donate used cellphones, good quality items you can't/never use (check out their wishlist), carry cards with their number and information on how to get help to leave in public places. Visit daily through December and vote on that link there. They could use the $250k very badly. or -your- local branch!
If you have a lot of time or a little bit of cash. You can also spend a few moments to learn about this program and maybe mention it to friends looking for volunteer opportunities.

Signs of Abuse!

Read up! Know what to look for and how to report child abuse! If you see abuse, look into reporting it. Call a local center and ask them for help. Don't ever, ever, ever think, "Oh, someone else will do something." Likely, they won't because they're thinking the same thing you are.

Those of you who work with children, keep it up! I am glad to know that you're making a difference!

Given that I'm pretty sure that the recent Facebook meme is an attempt at the "Foot in the Door" technique," I think that publicizing this information to help people follow up is the best thing you could possibly be doing.

Thank you. I tried to take the meme and re-write is as

"Encourage everyone to link to area Domestic Violence and Child Abuse prevention programs. Share links for places in need of donations and volunteering, especially in this season of giving. Because we all know a picture alone, with some sentiments tacked on, is not really going to help."

Unfortunately this didn't prove very popular, so I created this entry.

The best thing the recent FaceBook meme has done is cause drama and made individuals feel the need to speak out about the issue.

That middleway house link is handy... I will vote repeatedly for their funding link.
